17-inch 4K Touch Workstation

The Dell XPS 9720 is a 17-inch laptop built around a 3840 x 2400 touchscreen and a 14-core Intel Core i7-12700H reaching 4.7 GHz. It ships with 48GB of memory and a 960GB SSD running Windows 11 Home. A dedicated GeForce RTX 3060 with 6GB GDDR6 handles graphics duties.

Creative pros needing GPU memory and RAM capacity

The 48GB memory and discrete RTX 3060 suit video editors, 3D artists and developers running local simulations or heavy multitasking workloads. Buyers who primarily write code, browse the web or edit documents will not use the graphics headroom and can save cost with an integrated-graphics ultraportable.

48GB unified memory ceiling

The system maxes out at 48GB of soldered memory with no expansion slots, so the configuration you buy is the ceiling for every future project. Verify that your largest datasets and virtual-machine fleets fit inside that limit before committing.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 960GB SSD or look for a larger drive?

The 960GB SSD is the only storage option listed for this XPS 9720, so there is no alternative capacity to choose from.

What does the 4.7GHz turbo figure mean when I am editing video?

The i7-12700H can reach 4.7GHz on up to 14 cores for short bursts, giving faster timeline scrubbing and export starts before thermal limits lower the clock.

Does the RTX 3060 with 6GB GDDR6 cap my external monitor at 4K 60Hz?

The laptop drives its internal 3840x2400 panel at 4K; external 4K 60Hz output is supported over the available video outputs.
