Battery-powered exit alarm for commercial doors
The Detex DX-ECL-230D is a battery-operated exit control lock with a built-in 100 decibel alarm. It fits wood, hollow metal or aluminium doors of standard thickness and uses a single-point, one-inch throw saw-resistant deadbolt. The device accepts five-pin through seven-pin standard or interchangeable core rim cylinders.
Alarm requires key reset and cylinder not included
Locking or unlocking the deadbolt automatically arms or disarms the alarm, and the alarm can only be silenced with a control key. A nine-volt battery is supplied, but at least one rim cylinder must be purchased separately. The unit is not suited for doors outside the stated thickness range or for applications needing multi-point latching.
Straightforward retrofit with one common pitfall
Installation follows a time-tested design used for more than 30 years and is described as easy. The main issue installers encounter is forgetting to order a compatible rim cylinder, which is required for the lock to function and for alarm reset.

Questions about this item
Which version of the DX-ECL-230D should I choose for a standard 1-3/4" thick door?
The DX-ECL-230D is designed to fit standard door thicknesses from 1-3/4" to 2-1/4", so this single model covers the standard size without needing a different version.
How loud is the 100 decibel alarm in a real shop environment?
At 100 decibels, the alarm is comparable to a loud power tool or motorcycle, making it clearly audible through a busy retail floor to deter shoplifting or trespassing.
What does the battery-operated interface mean for daily operation?
The lock runs on an included 9-volt battery, so there is no wiring to the building power; the deadbolt action arms and disarms the alarm, and only a control key can silence it.
