Purpose and Audience

This HDMI to RJ45 extender kit sends 1080p video and audio up to 30 metres over Cat5e or Cat6 cable. It suits installers who need to bridge longer runs than a standard HDMI lead allows without adding a power supply.

Decisive Specification

The pair transmits 1080p at 30 metres using Cat6 cable; Cat5e will not reach that distance. HDCP 1.1 and 1.2 are not supported, so protected content from some sources will not pass through.

Sustained Load Behaviour

No external power is required, so the adapters draw all current from the HDMI source and maintain a stable point-to-point link over the full cable run. Hot-plug operation lets you connect or disconnect devices without interrupting the signal path.

Questions about this item

What does the 30-metre 1080p claim mean when the extender is connected in my setup?

It means you can run a Cat6 cable up to 30 metres between the transmitter and receiver while keeping 1080p video and audio intact; Cat5e will not reach the full distance.

Which cable standard does the extender use and what does it limit?

The pair follows the IEEE-568B wiring standard and requires a single Cat5e or Cat6 patch cable — no extra HDMI cables or adapters can be inserted in the link.

What physical space and connections do I need to mount the two adapter units?

Each unit is a compact plastic block with an HDMI plug on one side and an RJ45 jack on the other; they sit inline behind the source and display with no external power required.
