Eight-bay charger with included batteries

The package combines an eight-bay LCD charger with eight AAA Acculoop-X NiMH cells rated at 1100 mAh. It accepts one to eight AA or AAA NiMH or NiCD batteries and shows individual charging status on each of the eight LCD indicators. The unit runs from a 100 to 240 volt AC adaptor supplying 12 V at 1 A.

Upgrade from single-bay or timer chargers

The microprocessor control uses negative delta V cut-off, a safety timer, short-circuit protection and reverse-polarity protection to stop charging automatically when cells are full. A discharge function refreshes batteries before charging and identifies defective cells, removing the guesswork of fixed-time chargers. The jump is worth it when you regularly cycle multiple cells and want each bay managed independently.

Limits of the NiMH chemistry and charge rates

AA cells charge at 500 mA and AAA cells at 250 mA, giving typical charge times of four to six hours for 2000 to 2900 mAh AA packs and three to five hours for 800 to 1200 mAh AAA packs. Discharge current is limited to 200 to 300 mAh, so deep conditioning of very high-capacity cells takes longer. The included AAA cells arrive pre-charged and retain 85 percent capacity after a year in storage, rated for up to 1000 recharge cycles.
