Questions about this item

Does the replacement cover generate any noise, heat or extra power draw when the laptop runs all day?

The cover is a passive plastic shell with no electronics, so it adds no noise, heat or power consumption during extended use.

What existing hardware must I already have for this cover to fit and work correctly?

You need a ThinkPad W520 or T520 chassis that originally used part number 04X3735; the cover simply snaps onto that frame.

Will this cover align properly if I keep my original hinges, display bezel and palm-rest from the same model?

Yes, it is moulded to the W520/T520 C-cover geometry, so original hinges, bezel and palm-rest all line up without modification.
