Eaton FH30 Thermal Unit for Motor Protection

The Eaton FH30 is a bimetallic thermal overload relay designed for NEMA Size 0, 1 and 2 starters. It provides Trip Class 20 protection for motors with full-load currents between 3.43 and 4.40 amperes. The transparent housing allows visual inspection of the trip mechanism. Compatible with Series A200 and B100 contactors.

Sustained Overload Response

Under continuous overload the bimetallic element heats proportionally to motor current, delivering an inverse-time trip curve that matches Trip Class 20 requirements. This behaviour prevents nuisance tripping during normal start-up while ensuring disconnect within the defined time band for sustained faults. The unit resets manually after cooling.

Replaces Worn or Mismatched Heaters

This thermal unit replaces original heaters in Eaton Cutler-Hammer starters when the motor nameplate current falls within the 3.43 to 4.40 A range. The upgrade is worth it when existing heaters are corroded, have tripped repeatedly, or no longer match the installed motor rating. It does not suit applications requiring electronic overload features or current ranges outside the stated bands.
