What the product is

eMedia Guitar For Dummies is a downloadable Mac application that delivers over 80 step-by-step lessons and over 40 high-quality videos for anyone starting to play guitar. The course is arranged in seven chapters covering tuning, basic chords, power chords, strumming patterns and an introduction to rock riffs. Professional instructor Kevin Garry, Ph.D., guides each technique on screen.

Build and delivery

The software arrives as a digital download, so no physical media or packaging is involved and installation begins immediately on a compatible Mac. It runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or later, fitting older and current macOS systems alike. Lessons include music tracking that highlights notes and lyrics in time with playback, and variable-speed MIDI lets you slow any exercise to a comfortable tempo.

Deciding specification

The single figure that determines suitability is the operating-system requirement: Mac OS X 10.4 or later. If your Mac meets that baseline the full library of 80 lessons and 40 videos will run; if it does not, the software cannot be installed. No other hardware specification gates access to the course material.
