What it is

eMedia My Piano EK12097DLW is a downloadable Windows program that delivers over 100 piano lessons for children aged five and up. An animated character called Pam the Piano guides each session, while a former Juilliard instructor provides the curriculum. The software runs on Windows XP through Windows 8 and uses interactive feedback to show finger placement and score accuracy when a MIDI keyboard is connected.

Who it suits

This title suits parents who want a structured, game-based introduction to piano for young beginners without hiring a private teacher. It works best when a MIDI keyboard is available so the interactive scoring and finger-position features function as designed. Households that only have an acoustic piano or no keyboard at all will not benefit from the real-time feedback that distinguishes this package.

Capacity and headroom

The course contains more than 100 lessons covering fundamentals, songs and mini-games that reinforce notation and rhythm. Progression stops at the end of the included material; there is no expansion library, subscription tier or advanced repertoire built in. Students who complete the curriculum will need a separate method or instructor to continue developing technique and repertoire beyond the beginner level.
