Portable TV DVD Boombox

The Emerson EDL-2870H-BK is a portable boombox with a built-in 7" LCD screen, DVD player and digital ATSC TV tuner. It receives free over-the-air HD television channels and plays CDs, MP3 discs and USB or SD media. Bluetooth streaming, AM/FM radio and an HDMI output are also included.

Home and travel entertainment

Buyers wanting an all-in-one device for watching broadcast TV, DVDs and streaming music without internet will find it suitable. Users who need rechargeable battery operation, a larger display or higher audio output than 5W RMS should look at other options.

ATSC tuner with DVD playback

The single specification that decides fit is the integrated digital ATSC tuner combined with a DVD player on a 7" screen. If free over-the-air HD reception and disc playback are required together, this unit meets that need; if only streaming or larger-screen viewing is wanted, it does not.

Questions about this item

How do I install the eight C batteries and what step do people often miss?

Open the battery compartment, insert eight C cells following the polarity diagram, then close the latch securely; the step often missed is verifying the latch clicks so the unit does not lose power when moved.

What maintenance or replacement will the 7" LCD screen and DVD mechanism need later?

The LCD may require occasional cleaning with a soft dry cloth; the DVD laser lens can be cleaned with a standard disc cleaner if read errors appear, and the eight C batteries will need replacement when playback time drops noticeably.

What limit shows up first during sustained use at the 5W RMS output?

Battery life becomes the limiting factor first; eight C cells powering 5W RMS stereo output will exhaust well before the AC adapter would overheat or the DVD motor wears out.
