Each adapter splits the eight conductors into two groups using pins 1236 and 4578 so both connections run at 100 megabytes per second without IP assignment or signal interference. The pair must be used together at opposite ends of the same cable run.

Tool-Free Passive Installation

No drivers, power or configuration are required; simply plug the couplers into the wall socket and the switch or router at each end. The only common mistake is crossing the labelled ports — port 1 on adapter A must connect to port 1 on adapter B and port 2 to port 2, otherwise neither link will establish. Because the split is purely physical, there is no negotiation or status LED to confirm correct wiring.
