This 3.3ft red cable links a single SFF-8087 36-pin host connector to four SFF-8482 29-pin SAS targets, each with an integrated Molex 4-pin power lead. It is built for DIY or professional installers expanding Storage Area Network or Direct Attached Storage capacity. The forward fan-out design connects a RAID controller or HBA directly to four SAS hard drives.

Capacity and headroom

The assembly provides four discrete data and power channels from one controller port, supporting configurations that populate up to four drive bays. It runs out when the host controller lacks an SFF-8087 interface or when the backplane requires a different target connector type. The fixed 3.3ft length also limits routing options in larger chassis.

Thermals noise and power draw

As a passive copper assembly, the cable generates no audible noise and adds negligible heat to the system. Power for the attached drives is supplied through the included Molex 4-pin tails, drawing from the host power supply rather than the data link. Normal use imposes no additional thermal load on the controller card.
