What the ESTONE OZG2 does

The ESTONE OZG2 is a three-input, one-output SPDIF/Toslink optical audio switch. It lets you connect up to three digital optical sources — such as a game console, Blu-ray player or streaming box — to a single optical input on a soundbar, AV receiver or amplifier. The unit is powered via an included 5V USB cable and can be operated by front-panel buttons or the supplied IR remote with extension cable.

Signal integrity over distance

Optical fibre attenuation is specified at 0.2 dB per metre, allowing a transmission distance up to 40 metres or 130 feet without audible degradation. Supported sampling rates reach 192 kHz for PCM stereo and 96 kHz for compressed formats. The switch passes Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 bitstreams transparently but cannot carry 7.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD, as those formats require HDMI bandwidth.

Check your sources and sink

Verify that each source device outputs PCM stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 over its optical port; 7.1-channel or high-bitrate codecs will not pass through. Confirm your receiving device has a single SPDIF/Toslink input and can decode the formats you intend to use. A free USB port or 5V USB charger is needed for power, and line-of-sight or the IR extension cable must reach the switch location for remote operation.
