Two-Computer DisplayPort KVM

The ESTONE SW204N-DP lets two computers share one DisplayPort monitor and four USB 3.0 peripherals. It supports video up to 7680 by 4320 at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz. Front-panel buttons and a wired desktop controller switch sources instantly. The unit works with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Unix without drivers.

DisplayPort 1.4 bandwidth limits

The switch passes DisplayPort 1.4 signals, so 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz are the maximum supported formats. It is backward compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 and 1.1, but higher refresh rates or colour depths beyond the 1.4 specification cannot be transmitted. The four USB 3.0 ports operate at 5 Gbps each, so total throughput is shared among connected devices.

Check cables and power before ordering

Each computer needs a DisplayPort cable and a USB 3.0 cable to reach the switch. The package includes two USB 3.0 cables and a power adapter; DisplayPort cables are not supplied. Verify that both source systems can output the desired resolution over DisplayPort. The external controller requires a clear line of sight to the switch for reliable switching.

Questions about this item

Should I pick this 2-port DisplayPort KVM or a larger model for two computers and one monitor?

The SW204N-DP is built for exactly two computers sharing one DisplayPort monitor and four USB 3.0 peripherals, so it matches a dual-PC, single-display setup without extra ports you would not use.

What does 8K 60 Hz actually deliver when I connect my GPU and display?

The switch passes DisplayPort 1.4 signals up to 7680×4320 at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, so a compatible graphics card and monitor can run those resolutions and refresh rates through the KVM without degradation.

Which DisplayPort version does the switch use and what bandwidth limit does that impose?

It uses DisplayPort 1.4, which is backward compatible with 1.2 and 1.1, capping the link at the 1.4 specification’s maximum video throughput for 8K 60 Hz or 4K 120 Hz operation.
