Designed for 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro

This 7-in-1 hub adds Thunderbolt 3 passthrough, 4K HDMI output, USB 3.0, USB-C data, SD and MicroSD slots to 13-inch and 15-inch models. It targets owners of those specific laptops who need legacy ports restored in a single silver dongle.

Thunderbolt 3 passthrough limited to 50 Gbps

The upstream port passes charging and data at up to 50 Gbps while the HDMI port outputs 4K at 30 Hz or 1080p at 60 Hz. USB 3.0 and USB-C downstream ports each peak at 5 Gbps with 5 V 900 mA power delivery.

SD and MicroSD slots accept cards up to 256 GB each

The USB 3.0 port can drive a 2.5-inch hard drive up to 2 TB. Builders needing faster than 30 Hz 4K output, higher card capacities or more than two USB-A style connections will find this hub insufficient.

Questions about this item

Which version of this hub should I choose for a 13-inch or 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2016 or 2017?

The hub is designed for both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models released in 2016 and 2017, so a single version covers either size.

What does the HDMI 4K at 30Hz spec mean when I connect a monitor?

It means the HDMI port can drive an external display at 4K resolution with a 30Hz refresh rate; 1080p at 60Hz and 720p are also supported.

How fast is the Thunderbolt 3 passthrough and what does it limit in practice?

The Thunderbolt 3 port passes through up to 50Gbps for data and video, so the hub does not throttle the host's full Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth.
