ThinkPad Pro Docking Station 135W

This docking station connects select ThinkPad notebooks through a proprietary side connector. It supports up to three external displays and provides ten USB ports for peripherals. The included 135 W power adapter charges the laptop and attached devices simultaneously. It is built for enterprise fleets that need driver-free docking.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The unit draws up to 135 W from the supplied AC adapter to power the laptop and all downstream ports. No active cooling is mentioned in the specifications, so operation is silent. Power delivery is split between the laptop charge path and the 15 W USB-C plus 10.5 W always-on USB-A outputs.

Build integration

The side connector fits the listed ThinkPad models only; other laptops cannot attach. Three video outputs — two DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.0 — plus VGA free up the notebook’s own ports. Gigabit Ethernet, a combo audio jack and a Kensington slot complete the desk-side I/O.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station to my ThinkPad T490 using the side connector, and which step is often missed?

Slide the notebook onto the side connector until it clicks, then press the mechanical unlock lever to lock it; the step people miss is pressing that lever to engage the lock.

Will the 135 W power adapter or any dock component need scheduled replacement?

The 135 W Slim Tip adapter and power cord are the only parts that may wear out; no other dock component has a stated replacement interval.

When running three UHD displays continuously, which limit appears first — display bandwidth or USB 10 Gbps throughput?

Three UHD displays consume the available DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 bandwidth before the four USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports reach their 10 Gbps ceiling.
