Turns a laptop into a portable crash cart for headless servers with BIOS-level control, file transfer, 1920 x 1200 60Hz video capture and no external power needed
The Explus-C USB crash cart adapter turns a laptop into a portable KVM console for headless systems such as rack servers, PCs, ATMs and kiosks. It connects through an integrated USB cable to the laptop and combined USB and VGA cables to the target device. No server-side software is required for BIOS-level control. The pocket-sized unit draws power from the server-side USB port, eliminating the need for an AC outlet.
The built-in software captures video at 1920 x 1200 resolution at 60Hz and takes screenshots for documentation. File transfer between the laptop and the target system is supported for moving logs, patches or firmware images. The adapter handles routine troubleshooting tasks including BIOS configuration, OS installation and recovery operations. It is not suited for graphical workloads that demand higher resolutions or refresh rates beyond the capture specification.
The adapter relies on a VGA video connection and USB for keyboard, mouse and power, so it only works with target systems that provide those ports. It cannot connect to headless servers lacking VGA output or USB host ports. The single-port design manages one target at a time and does not support switching between multiple systems. Administrators needing multi-port KVM switching or digital video interfaces such as HDMI or DisplayPort will need a different solution.
