Adds a single RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port over Category 5 twisted pair to compatible Summit X450a series switches
The Extreme Networks 10065 is a new SFP transceiver that adds a single copper Gigabit Ethernet port to compatible switches. It plugs into an SFP slot and provides an RJ-45 interface running at 10/100/1000Base-T over Category 5 twisted-pair cabling. The module is designed for data networking in the Summit X450a series, though it is not supported on combo ports of the X450, X450a or X450e models.
Network administrators who need a copper uplink on a Summit X450a switch will find this transceiver a direct fit. It is not suitable for fibre connections, for switches outside the stated compatibility list, or for any device that requires SFP+ speeds. Builders who need more than one RJ-45 port per module or who must use combo ports on the excluded X450 variants should look at other solutions.
The decisive factor is the maximum data transfer rate of 100 Mbps despite the 10/100/1000Base-T labelling, so verify that your link budget and switch port configuration accept this throughput before purchasing.

No firmware updates are needed for the transceiver itself; occasional cleaning of the RJ-45 contacts with a lint-free swab maintains reliable copper links.
The twisted-pair interface tops out at 100 Mbps full duplex, so the copper link itself is the bottleneck before the host switch port saturates.
The transceiver draws under 1 W typical, adding negligible heat to the Summit X450a chassis and requiring no additional cooling.
