Managed 24-Port PoE Switch

The Extreme Networks 5520-24W is a managed switch delivering 90W PoE on all 24 RJ-45 ports. It targets enterprise networks that need high-density power for wireless access points, IP cameras, and VoIP endpoints. The platform supports cloud, on-premises, or fabric-based management through Extreme Platform ONE and ExtremeCloud IQ. MACsec-capable hardware secures data on every link.

Build Integration and Uplink Options

Two unpopulated QSFP28 stacking ports provide high-speed uplinks or switch stacking without consuming front-panel ports. A dedicated out-of-band management port, serial console, USB Micro-B console, and two USB-A ports give multiple paths for configuration and firmware storage. One VIM slot allows future I/O expansion. The 1U chassis fits standard racks at 44 mm height and 441 mm width.

Upgrade Path and Power Scaling

This model replaces switches limited to 802.3at power levels, enabling 90W per port for pan-tilt-zoom cameras and high-performance access points. PoE budget scales with the installed power supplies: a single 715W unit delivers 494W, while dual 2000W units at 200-240VAC provide 2160W. Organisations staying with lower-power PoE+ devices or needing fewer than 24 powered ports will not utilise the full capacity.

Questions about this item

What is the PoE power budget per port when all 24 ports are active under sustained load?

Each port delivers up to 90 W; the total budget depends on the installed power supplies — one 715 W supply gives 494 W, two 715 W supplies give 1079 W, one 1100 W supply gives 879 W, one 2000 W supply gives 879 W at 100-120 VAC or 1779 W at 200-240 VAC, two 2000 W supplies give 1869 W at 100-120 VAC or 2160 W at 200-240 VAC.

What are the typical heat and noise levels when the 5520-24W runs continuously with a full 2480 W power draw?

The chassis measures 44 mm high, 441 mm wide and 449 mm deep with PSUs installed and weighs 6.25 kg; fan speed and acoustic output scale with internal temperature and total power consumption up to 2480 W.

Which power supplies and uplink modules must I already own to operate the 24-port 90 W PoE switch?

The unit ships with unpopulated PSU bays and two empty QSFP28 stacking ports; you need at least one supported power supply (715 W, 1100 W or 2000 W) and QSFP28 transceivers or DAC cables for uplinks or stacking.
