  • Plug-and-play USB 3.0 connection needs no driver or extra power
  • Reads and writes CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and HD DVD discs
  • Works with Windows 11 down to 98, Linux and Mac OS
  • Over 400000 units sold since 2016 proves reliability
  • Single cable powers and transfers data for portable convenience

USB 3.0 External Optical Drive

This FANTEC external drive reads Blu-ray and HD DVD discs while also burning and ripping standard CDs and DVDs. It connects through a single USB 3.0 cable that supplies both data and power so no separate adapter is required. The unit works plug-and-play on Windows, macOS and Linux systems.

For Laptops Lacking an Internal Drive

It suits owners of modern laptops, ultrabooks or all-in-one PCs that omit an optical bay and need to install software, archive photos or play legacy discs. Buyers who require internal 5.25-inch mounting, 4K UHD Blu-ray playback or M-DISC writing should look at other solutions.

USB 3.0 Bus-Powered Connection

The drive draws all necessary power from the USB 3.0 port itself, so a free port of that standard is the deciding factor. If the host only offers older USB 2.0 ports or cannot supply sufficient current, the unit will not operate reliably.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the drive is working after plugging it into a USB 3.0 port?

The device is detected automatically by Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP, 98, SE, ME, 2000, Linux and Mac OS, then appears in File Explorer or Finder so you can open a disc and verify read or write operation.

What comes in the box and what must I purchase separately?

The package includes the external Blu-ray & HD DVD player with its attached USB 3.0 cable; blank CD±R/RW, DVD±R/RW media and any playback software for protected Blu-ray titles are not included.

Which version should I choose for a laptop running Windows 11?

The single model supports Windows 11 (with a media player and network connection), 10, 8.1, 7 and earlier down to Windows 98, plus Linux and Mac OS, so no separate version selection is required.
