USB 3.0 and Type-C external CD/DVD writer reads at 24x CD and writes at 8x DVD, works with Windows 11/10/8.1/7/XP/2003/Vista and Linux, but not Blu-ray or M1/M2 Macs
This external CD and DVD drive connects to laptops and desktops through USB 3.0 or USB Type-C ports. It reads and writes CDs and DVDs for software installation, media playback and data backup. The unit draws power from the USB port so no separate adapter is required.
The drive uses a USB 3.0 connection with a maximum throughput of 5 Gbps and falls back to USB 2.0 or USB 1.0 when needed. It cannot read or write Blu-ray discs and is not compatible with Apple M1 or M2 based Macs. Driver installation is not required on supported systems.
Maximum write performance reaches 8x for DVD media and 24x for CD media, which is sufficient for typical disc burning and ripping tasks. The drive handles standard CD and DVD formats but offers no support for higher-capacity optical media.

Use whichever port your laptop has; both connectors are on the same cable and deliver the same 5 Gbps maximum signalling rate.
The 5 Gbps link is faster than the drive's 8x DVD and 24x CD write speeds, so the optical mechanism remains the bottleneck.
The drive falls back to USB 2.0 or 1.0 speeds automatically, but the slower bus may become the limiting factor for large transfers.
