Product Identity

The FASCO D228 is a direct-drive blower motor built for HVAC equipment that calls for a shaded-pole, single-phase design. It delivers 1/50 HP at a nameplate speed of 3000 rpm from a 115 V AC supply, making it suitable for replacement in compatible air-handling units.

Thermals Noise Power

The motor carries automatic thermal protection and Class B insulation rated for a maximum ambient temperature of 40 °C. In normal operation it draws 0.92 A at 60 Hz with a service factor of 1.0, and the open air-over enclosure allows airflow to assist cooling while the unit runs at its single fixed speed.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Under continuous duty the auto-reset thermal protector will interrupt power if winding temperature exceeds the design limit, then restore operation once the motor cools. The 18-inch leads and ring/stud mounting allow all-angle installation, but the motor is not usable at 200 V or 208 V, so sustained load must remain on the rated 115 V supply.

Questions about this item

How do I install the ring/stud mounting on this 3.3 frame motor and what step do people miss?

Mount the motor using the ring or stud pattern on the 3.3 frame; the step often missed is confirming the shaft rotates CWSE before securing it.

What maintenance will the shaded-pole motor with auto thermal protection need later?

The sealed shaded-pole design needs no lubrication; only periodic cleaning of the open air-over vents and verifying the auto thermal reset still functions.

At what point does the 40 °C ambient limit restrict continuous operation?

Sustained operation above 40 °C ambient triggers the auto thermal protection, so the motor will cycle off until it cools.
