USB 3.0 SATA Adapter for 1.8" & 2.5" Drives
This Fervit adapter connects 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch SATA hard drives to a USB 3.0 port. It supports Mass Storage Class drives and is backward compatible with USB 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 ports. The unit complies with Serial ATA Specification Revision 2.6 and includes an extra USB power cable for drives that need additional current.
Build Integration: Hot-Swap Support and Power Cable
The adapter enables hot-swapping and plug-and-play operation so drives can be exchanged without restarting the host system. Its extra USB power cable draws supplementary power from a second USB port when a single port cannot supply enough current. No external power brick is required, freeing a mains socket and reducing cable clutter on the bench.
Sustained Operation: 5 Gb/s Peak Throughput
The Super-Speed USB 3.0 interface delivers a maximum transfer rate of 5 Gb/s during sustained read or write sessions. Backward compatibility with SATA 1.5 Gb/s disks ensures older drives operate at their native speed without bottlenecks. Supported operating systems include Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, Server 2003 and Server 2008 in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions with the latest service packs.

Questions about this item
Does the USB 3.0 interface sustain its 5Gb/sec maximum during long transfers?
The adapter reaches up to 5Gb/sec on USB 3.0; actual sustained speed depends on the connected drive and host controller.
How much heat or power draw should I expect when the adapter runs all day?
The unit draws power from the USB port and the extra USB power cable; no active cooling is fitted, so it stays cool under normal 2.5" or 1.8" drive loads.
Which operating system must I already have installed for plug-and-play to work?
Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8 (32-bit or 64-bit) with the latest service packs, plus Server 2003 or 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit).
