Guided actuator with 20 mm bore and 40 mm stroke for precise linear motion in electrician tool applications
The Festo DFM-20-40-P-A-GF is a guided actuator built for linear motion tasks that demand repeatable positioning. It suits automation engineers and machine builders integrating controlled movement into assembly or test stations. The unit arrives new in a single pack, identified by part number 170843. Its red finish matches standard Festo component coding.
The actuator converts compressed air into linear force, so it generates no electrical heat and draws no current during normal cycling. Noise levels are limited to the exhaust of the pilot valve and the mechanical impact at end positions. No external power supply or cooling provision is required for the actuator itself.
The actuator mounts directly to machine frames using its integral guide rods, freeing the designer from adding separate linear bearings. It requires a clean, lubricated compressed-air supply and a suitable directional control valve, neither of which are included. The guided construction resists side loads, reducing the need for external alignment fixtures.

Secure the actuator using the mounting holes on the guide body; the step often missed is ensuring the guide rods are perfectly parallel to the load direction before tightening, otherwise binding occurs.
The guide rods and bushings require periodic lubrication per Festo guidelines; seals should be inspected annually and replaced if air leakage appears at the piston rod.
The 40 mm stroke length is the primary mechanical limit; sustained high-speed cycling will hit the end-position cushioning capacity before thermal limits become an issue.
