The Festo MS6N-LFM-3/8-BUV is a fiber-type fine filter rated at 1 µm filtration grade for compressed-air systems. It suits food-industry environments where air quality must meet ISO 8573-1:2010 class [5:7:3] and residual oil content stays at 0.5 mg/m³. The die-cast aluminum housing and wrought aluminum alloy bowl with integrated metal guard handle operating pressures from 2 to 12 bar. Electricians and maintenance teams use it to protect downstream pneumatic tools and processes.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

The unit connects via 3/8 NPT ports on both sides and weighs 820 g, so standard pipe threading tools are sufficient for mounting. A fully automatic condensate drain removes up to 38 ml of liquid without manual intervention. The main installation risk is exceeding the 140 l/min minimum flow needed to maintain the stated air-quality class; below that rate the filter efficiency of 99.99 % cannot be guaranteed. Ensure NBR seals are compatible with any synthetic lubricants in the system.

Behaviour Under Sustained Load

During continuous operation the filter maintains its 950 l/min maximum standard flow rate as long as inlet pressure stays within the 2 to 12 bar range and medium temperature remains between 5 °C and 60 °C. The borosilicate fiber element resists clogging longer than coarse filters, but pressure drop will rise gradually as particulates accumulate. Corrosion resistance class 2 protects the housing under moderate stress, and the bowl guard prevents rupture if pressure spikes occur during extended shifts.
