Barometric Draft Control for Heating Systems

This barometric draft control regulates chimney draft for gas, oil or solid-fuel appliances. The unit fits flues from 15 to 16 inches and carries a nominal capacity rating of 201. Galvanised steel construction resists corrosion in high-temperature exhaust environments. Installers use it to stabilise combustion efficiency and reduce fuel waste.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

The device operates passively with no electrical supply, so it adds zero power draw and produces no fan noise. Galvanised steel handles continuous flue-gas heat without warping. A balanced damper responds to pressure changes automatically, maintaining steady draft without mechanical wear. No moving parts require lubrication or periodic adjustment.

Build Fit and Clearances

The control measures 5 5/8 inches long by 17 1/2 inches wide and high, requiring a straight run of 15-to-16-inch flue pipe for mounting. Silver finish matches standard galvanised venting. The unit frees the appliance from over-fire draft spikes that can cause sooting or flame roll-out. No external wiring or control circuit is needed.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 16" M+MG2 Draft Control on my existing flue pipe, and what step is often missed?

Mount the unit in the vertical section of the flue with the hinge axis horizontal; the step many miss is setting the counterweight to match the 201 nominal capacity so the damper opens at the correct draft pressure.

What maintenance or replacement will the galvanized steel draft control need over time?

Inspect the hinge and counterweight annually for corrosion or binding; the galvanized coating protects the steel, but if the damper no longer seals or moves freely, replace the entire unit.

What limit appears first when the draft control runs continuously on a high-output oil burner?

The 201 nominal capacity is the first limit reached; sustained draft above this rating prevents the damper from modulating correctly, causing over-fire conditions.
