Firehawk Indy 500 summer tyre

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is a summer tyre built for passenger cars and SUVs in size 245/40R19 with a 98W XL rating. It targets drivers who want strong dry and wet grip plus responsive handling for spirited road use. The asymmetric tread uses a silica-enhanced compound and Pulse Groove channels to evacuate water. This tyre is not for buyers who need winter traction or all-season versatility.

W-rated summer performance limits

The tyre carries a W speed rating approved for up to 168 mph and a load index of 98 with XL reinforcement for extra load capacity. Its UTQG treadwear grade is 500 with traction A, indicating a focus on grip over maximum mileage. As a dedicated summer compound, it loses flexibility in cold temperatures and must not be used on snow or ice. The 26.7 inch overall diameter fits 19 inch rims only.

Upgrade from Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500

This model replaces the earlier Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 with a new tread pattern that improves wet braking and cornering confidence. The proprietary Pulse Groove water channels and redesigned outer tread blocks deliver the step up in handling. The jump is worth it for enthusiasts who prioritise wet-road safety and dry cornering precision over the longest possible tread life.

Questions about this item

How do I choose between the 245/40R19 98W XL and other sizes?

Match the 245/40R19 size and 19‑inch rim diameter to your vehicle’s placard; the 98 load index and W speed rating must meet or exceed the manufacturer’s specification.

What does the W speed rating mean for everyday driving?

The W rating certifies sustained speeds up to 168 mph, giving high‑speed stability and heat resistance well above legal motorway limits.

How does the XL load range affect pressure and capacity?

XL indicates reinforced construction for higher inflation pressure and greater load‑carrying ability than a standard‑load tyre in the same size.
