Four-Computer KVM Switch

The FOCUSTEC unit lets one keyboard, one mouse and one monitor control four computers or laptops. It is aimed at users who need to juggle multiple workstations, a gaming rig and a laptop, or a mix of Mac and Windows machines without swapping cables.

HDMI Cable Length and Port Order

Each computer must connect with an HDMI 2.0 cable no longer than three metres and built to AWG26. The switch wakes the USB hub about 20 seconds after the first cable is attached, and it expects the mouse in USB port 1 and the keyboard in USB port 2. Input priority follows the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4.

Audio Extraction and IR Control

An SPDIF optical output carries 5.1-channel sound while a stereo 2.1-channel analogue jack handles two-channel audio; 7.1-channel content passes only through the HDMI output. The bundled IR remote and its extension cable let you change sources from across the room, and the switch supports 4K at 60 Hz as well as 1080p at 144 Hz.

Questions about this item

Does the FOCUSTEC KVM switch come with the HDMI and USB cables I need to connect four computers, or do I buy them separately?

The box includes the KVM switch, an IR remote with extension cable, and a power adapter. HDMI 2.0 cables (AWG26, under 3 m) and USB 3.0/3.1 cables for each computer are not included and must be purchased separately.

Which video mode should I pick — 4K at 60 Hz or 1080p at 144 Hz — for a gaming PC and a work laptop sharing one monitor?

The switch passes 4K 60 Hz 4:4:4 8-bit HDR and Dolby Vision for the work laptop, and 1080p 144 Hz (also 120 Hz) for the gaming PC. Choose the resolution and refresh rate that matches each source; the switch handles both without manual toggling.

What does the 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 bandwidth actually deliver when I have a 5.1-channel soundtrack playing through the SPDIF output?

At 18 Gbps the switch carries 4K 60 Hz video with full 5.1 audio over HDMI. The SPDIF extractor outputs 5.1-channel audio simultaneously; stereo 2.1 output is active only when the source sends 2.1 or 5.1 channels, not 7.1.
