FortiGate 40F desktop firewall

The FortiGate 40F is a desktop network security appliance designed for branch offices and small sites that need consolidated threat protection and SD-WAN capability. It provides five Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports, with four configured as internal switch ports and one as a dedicated WAN uplink. The unit ships new and is managed through the Fortinet Security Fabric platform.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous traffic the appliance delivers IPv4 firewall throughput of 5 Gbps across 1518, 512 and 64 byte UDP frames, with a packet rate of 7.5 Mpps and latency of 2.97 µs. Threat protection throughput reaches 5 600 Mbps while NGFW throughput holds at 4 800 Mbps, and the system maintains 700 000 concurrent TCP sessions with 35 000 new sessions per second. Maximum power draw stays at 9.46 W from the external DC adapter.

Verify that your rack or desktop space accommodates the 1.5 x 8.5 x 6.3 inch chassis and 2.2 lb weight. Confirm the external power adapter can connect to a 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply. Ensure your FortiGuard subscription covers the security services you plan to activate and that the five RJ45 ports match your WAN and LAN cabling plan.
