Garmin Edge 1040 bike computer

The Garmin Edge 1040 is a GPS bike computer built for cyclists who need reliable navigation and performance tracking on every ride. It carries 32 GB of internal memory and a 3.5 inch touchscreen with a 282 x 470 pixel display. Multi-band GNSS technology improves positioning under tree cover and in urban canyons. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ANT+ connect sensors, smartphones and Varia accessories.

Upgrade from basic units

Riders moving up from computers that only record speed and distance gain preloaded cycle maps, 100 stored courses and up to 200 hours of activity history. The jump is worth it when you want power-guide targets, stamina insights and the ability to classify your cycling strengths against a specific course. Buyers who only need simple ride logging will not use these advanced coaching tools.

Quick mount and setup

The unit ships with a USB cable and fits standard quarter-turn mounts for fast handlebar installation. Pairing sensors and loading courses works through the touchscreen or the paired smartphone app, so most riders are rolling in minutes. The only common friction point is the initial Wi-Fi sync, which can stall if the network requires a captive-portal login.

Questions about this item

What handlebar diameter does the 4.6" tall by 2.3" wide unit fit?

The Edge 1040 measures 4.6 inches high, 2.3 inches wide and 0.8 inches deep; it mounts on standard handlebars using the supplied quarter-turn mount.

How do I pair the device with my phone and sensors, and what step is often missed?

Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the unit, open the Garmin Connect app on your phone, add the Edge 1040 and follow the prompts; the step many skip is granting location permission so live tracking and course sync work.

When will the internal 32 GB memory need managing, and how?

After roughly 200 hours of ride history or 100 saved courses the storage fills; connect the Edge 1040 via the included USB cable to a computer and delete old .fit files or export them to Garmin Connect to free space.
