1/2 Inch Arch Punch
The General Tools 1271E is a heat-treated forged steel arch punch with a 1/2 inch hollow tip and hexagonal shank. It creates clean holes in canvas, cardboard, leather, plastic, rubber and sheet metal. The tool includes an internal taper for clearance and measures 4 1/2 inches overall. It is sold individually without a striking cap or handguard.
Upgrade From Smaller Punches
This 1/2 inch size replaces smaller arch punches when a larger hole diameter is required for grommets, fasteners or lacing. The jump is worth it when the workpiece material matches the listed applications and the hexagonal shank fits the driver or holder being used. It is not for buyers who need a striking cap, a handguard or a set of multiple sizes.
Sustained Use Behaviour
Heat-treated forged steel resists deformation during repeated strikes on tough materials such as leather and sheet metal. The hollow tip ejects slugs to prevent clogging during continuous operation. The tool is not designed for automated machinery, tethered safety systems or applications requiring an included handle or striking cap.

Questions about this item
What size hole does the 1/2 in tip cut in leather or rubber?
The 1/2 in tip cuts a 1/2 in diameter hole in leather, rubber, canvas, cardboard, plastic or sheet metal.
How do you strike the hexagon shank without damaging it?
Place the hollow tip on the material, hold the hexagon shank steady and hit the end squarely with a hammer; the 1 in inside taper clears the slug.
When should the punch be replaced?
Replace the punch when the hollow tip no longer shears clean holes or the heat-treated forged steel shows visible wear or deformation.
