Fire-safe 6 Gallon Steel Trash Can

This Genuine Joe 58897 model is a steel waste container with a six gallon capacity designed for office, educational and all-purpose environments. Its fire-safe construction will not melt or emit toxic fumes in case of fire and meets OSHA standards while qualifying under NFPA Life Safety Code 101, Section 31.

Raised bottom and rolled wire rim

The raised bottom prevents heat transfer to the floor during a fire incident. A rolled wire rim adds structural strength while the polyester baked enamel finish provides a durable black surface that resists wear in daily use.

Check floor space and waste volume needs

Verify that the 14 inch height and 13 inch depth fit the intended location before ordering. Buyers who need a larger capacity or a different material should consider other options.

Questions about this item

Will the raised bottom or enamel finish need replacement after a fire event?

The raised bottom is integral to the steel body and the polyester baked enamel finish is baked on; neither is designed as a replaceable component after a fire.

What limits continuous daily use before the can shows wear?

The 6-gallon capacity and 14-inch height set the fill limit; the steel body and rolled wire rim are built to withstand repeated filling and emptying without deformation.

Does the can radiate noticeable heat or require power during all-day operation?

No power is needed; the passive steel construction with raised bottom only conducts heat if hot embers are placed inside, otherwise it remains at ambient temperature.
