ATX board with LGA 1150 socket, Z97 chipset, four DDR3 slots up to 3000 MT/s, one PCIe 3.0 x16, three PCIe x1, two legacy PCI, six SATA 6 Gb/s, one SATA Express, one M.2 PCIe.
This GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-SLI is an ATX form factor Intel motherboard built around the Z97 chipset and LGA 1150 socket. It supports 4th and 5th generation Core i3, i5 and i7 processors plus compatible Pentium, Celeron and Xeon CPUs. Four DDR3 DIMM slots accept up to 32 GB of dual-channel memory with overclocked speeds reaching 3000 MT/s. The board provides one PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, a second x16 slot wired at x8, three PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots and two legacy PCI slots for expansion.
Enthusiasts planning SLI or CrossFire configurations can use the two x16 physical slots while the three x1 slots and two PCI slots accommodate additional add-in cards such as sound cards, capture cards or older peripherals. Builders who only need a single graphics card and no legacy PCI devices may prefer a smaller or less feature-dense Z97 board. The M.2 slot and SATA Express connector share bandwidth with two of the six SATA 6 Gb/s ports so storage layout must be planned carefully.
The defining specification is the pair of PCI Express x16 slots where the primary runs at x16 and the secondary at x8, enabling two-way multi-GPU support on the Z97 platform. This lane allocation determines whether the board fits a planned SLI or CrossFire setup.

The board follows standard ATX dimensions with mounting holes spaced for ATX standoffs; the LGA 1150 socket sits in the usual CPU area so any ATX-compatible case will fit.
Lift the load lever, align the processor notches with the socket keys, place the CPU gently without force, lower the lever and lock it; the step often missed is removing the plastic socket cover before seating the chip.
The board has four 240-pin slots supporting up to 32 GB total in dual-channel DDR3; to exceed that capacity or move beyond the listed 3000 MT/s overclocked limit you must replace the modules and change platform.
