  • Twelve 2.5-inch hot-swap bays combine NVMe, SATA and SAS flexibility

1U EPYC 8004 barebone for GPU workloads

This 1U rack-mount barebone accepts a single AMD EPYC 8004 series processor in an SP6 socket. It targets cloud providers, edge deployments and SMBs that need PCIe 5.0 GPU acceleration in a compact chassis. The platform delivers 128GB/s I/O bandwidth with CXL 1.1+ support for disaggregated architectures.

PCIe 5.0 GPU slot and twelve DDR5 channels

One full-height full-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slot supports a dual-slot Gen5 GPU for compute acceleration. Six-channel DDR5 RDIMM memory populates up to twelve DIMM slots. Four 2.5-inch bays handle Gen4 NVMe, SATA or SAS drives while eight additional bays accept SATA or SAS media; all bays are hot-swappable. A single M.2 slot provides a PCIe Gen3 x4 interface.

SP6 socket limits upgrades to EPYC 8004 series

The SP6 socket only accepts AMD EPYC 8004 series CPUs, so future upgrades remain within that processor family. Buyers who need a different socket or a dual-processor layout cannot use this chassis. The 1U height also prevents installation of taller expansion cards or additional GPU slots beyond the single x16 connection.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 12 DIMM configuration or a smaller memory setup for this EPYC 8004 barebone?

The board provides 12 DDR5 slots across six channels, so populating all 12 DIMMs delivers maximum bandwidth and capacity for the EPYC 8004 series.

What does the 128GB/s PCIe 5.0 bandwidth mean when I install a GPU in the x16 slot?

The CPU provides 128GB/s of aggregate PCIe 5.0 throughput, and the single FHFL x16 slot can use up to 16 lanes of that bandwidth for a Gen5 GPU.

Does the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot run at full Gen5 speed or drop to Gen4 with current GPUs?

The slot is wired for PCIe 5.0 x16, so a Gen5 GPU operates at Gen5 speeds; a Gen4 GPU will run at Gen4 speeds on the same slot.
