Single 10GbE RJ45 adapter
The GLOTRENDS ST7215 adds a single 10Gb Ethernet port over a PCIe 2.1 x8 slot using the Intel X540-AT1 controller. It targets servers or workstations that need a copper 10GbE uplink without moving to SFP+ cabling. The card includes both a regular-profile and a low-profile bracket for different chassis heights. It runs on Windows client and server releases plus major Linux distributions and FreeBSD.
Suited for copper 10GbE uplinks
This card fits builders who want a single RJ45 10GbE connection on an existing PCIe 2.1 x8 slot and who run Windows Server, RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian or FreeBSD. It is not for systems that lack a x8 electrical slot, for Mac OS environments, or for deployments that require multiple ports, SFP+ fibre interfaces, or 2.5GbE and 5GbE intermediate speeds. Buyers needing those features should look at a different model.
10GbE over Cat6 or Cat6A
The adapter negotiates 10Gbps, 1Gbps or 100Mbps automatically and supports jumbo frames up to 15.5 KB. Category 6 cable reaches 55 metres at 10Gbps while Category 6A extends that to 100 metres. Throughput is limited by the PCIe 2.1 x8 interface and the single-port design, so aggregate bandwidth above 10Gbps or multi-queue scaling across several ports is not available.

Questions about this item
Does my motherboard need a PCIe 2.1 x8 slot for the ST7215?
The ST7215 uses a PCIe 2.1 x8 edge connector and will operate in any x8 or x16 slot from PCIe 2.0 onward.
Will the ST7215 negotiate down to 1 Gbps on my existing Cat 5e patch panel?
Yes, the Intel X540-AT1 controller automatically negotiates 10 Gbps, 1 Gbps or 100 Mbps links, so it works with older 1 Gbps infrastructure.
How do I confirm the ST7215 is running at 10 Gbps after installing the driver?
The speed LED shows solid green for a 10 GbE link, solid yellow for 1 GbE and off for 100 Mbps; the ACT/LINK LED blinks green during traffic.
