Silver beauty dish for portrait lighting

The Glow Edge 17 inch silver beauty dish is a light modifier designed for studio flash and monolight systems using Balcar White Lighting or Alien Bees mounts. Its double parabolic reflector produces a focused, specular beam that wraps around the subject while adding contrast and detail. The silver interior maximises output for dramatic portraiture and fashion work. Photographers needing a compact, directional source for head and shoulder shots will find it effective.

Mounting requires separate speedrings

The dish does not attach directly to a flash head; a compatible speedring must be purchased separately for the specific brand of monolight or studio flash in use. This extra step adds cost and setup time compared with modifiers that include a universal mount. Users with proprietary or less common mounting systems should verify speedring availability before buying. The circular aluminium construction keeps weight low for transport.

17 inch diameter defines coverage

The 17 inch diameter determines the spread and intensity of the light, making the modifier best suited for tight spaces, head and shoulder portraits or dramatic figure studies where a larger softbox or umbrella would be impractical. Photographers who need broader, softer illumination for full length or group shots will find the coverage too narrow. No other size option is described for this model.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 17 inch silver dish or a white version?

The 17 inch silver interior produces a focused, specular beam with higher contrast and stronger detail rendering than a white finish, making it better for dramatic portraits and fashion work.

How does the 17 inch size affect the light on a real shoot?

At 17 inches the dish delivers a wrap‑around quality similar to a small softbox but with punchier contrast, ideal for head‑and‑shoulder portraits or tight spaces where larger modifiers will not fit.

What mount does this dish use and what does that limit?

It is built for Balcar White Lighting and Alien Bees monolights and requires a separate speedring; without the correct ring it will not attach to other strobe brands.
