Bowens Mount Background Reflector

The Glow Edge Background Reflector attaches to any Bowens mount strobe and produces an oblong pool of light for background separation. Its white interior bowl concentrates flash output into a tight, even shaft that creates a natural gradual vignette behind the subject. The elliptical conical shape projects light rather than spreading it, delivering distinct fall-off for creative studio or location portraits. Two edge spring clips secure the included diffusion sheet while optional colour gels can be added for further effects.

Thermal and power behaviour

The passive metal housing dissipates heat from the strobe head without any moving parts or fan noise. Because the reflector contains no electronics it adds zero power draw to the lighting system. Normal studio sessions run silently and without thermal throttling concerns. The white finish reflects rather than absorbs radiant energy, helping keep the modifier cool during repeated flashes.

Sustained load performance

During extended shoots the reflector maintains consistent beam shape and fall-off characteristics as the strobe cycles. No active cooling means there is no performance drop-off from fan failure or dust buildup. The spring clips hold diffusion material securely even after many pop cycles. Photographers can rely on the same directed shaft of light from the first frame to the last without adjustment.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the Bowens-mount reflector to my strobe without cross-threading the bayonet?

Align the three lugs on the reflector ring with the strobe slots, push straight on, then twist clockwise until the spring-loaded pin clicks into the locking notch — forcing it before the pin seats is the step that strips threads.

What part will I need to replace first if the diffusion sheet tears or yellows?

The included diffusion sheet clips in with the two edge spring clips; order a replacement sheet of the same 22 × 32 cm size when it degrades.

At what distance does the conical beam start to lose its defined edge on a backdrop?

The 8.5 × 12.5 cm conical reflector projects a tight shaft; the fall-off stays crisp while the unit is within about one metre of the background, then the edge softens noticeably.
