Compact HDMI streaming stick

The Google Chromecast H2G2-42 plugs directly into an HDMI port and draws power from a TV USB socket or the included wall adapter. It streams 1080p video from a phone, tablet or laptop over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The 34 g dongle suits anyone who wants app-based playback on an existing television without a separate box.

Fits any HDMI port with CEC

The stick needs only a spare HDMI input and a USB power source, either on the TV or from the supplied adapter. An HDMI extender is included for tight spaces behind the screen. It frees up a set-top box slot and works with Android 2.3+, iOS 6+, Windows 7+ and Mac OS 10.7+. No Ethernet jack is present, so a wireless network is required.

Steady 1080p over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

Sustained streaming stays at 1080p resolution as long as the 802.11n link holds sufficient throughput. The single-band radio can congest in dense apartment blocks, which may introduce buffering during peak hours. There is no 5 GHz support, so buyers who need dual-band Wi-Fi or 4K output should consider other devices.
