Greenlee 3/8-16NC Combo Drill/Tap Bit

This new Greenlee combo bit drills and taps 3/8-16NC threads in a single pass, cutting cycle time for electricians running conduit or junction boxes. The 1/4-inch quick-change hex shank locks into impact drivers and drill chucks without a separate adapter. Split-point geometry with web thinning reduces walking and lowers thrust force on startup. Rated for material up to 10 gauge thickness.

Thread size decides fit

The 3/8-16NC designation sets the thread pitch and major diameter, so the bit only matches fasteners and holes made to that exact standard. If your project calls for a different thread count or diameter, this bit will not produce the correct threads. The 10-gauge material limit also means it is not suited for thicker steel plate or structural members. Choose a separate tap and drill set when the specification differs.

Questions about this item

What does the 10GA material-thickness rating mean when I use this bit in a drill?

The 10GA rating shows the maximum sheet-metal thickness the drill/tap can handle in a single pass; thicker material will stall the tool or strip the threads.

How does the 1/4" quick-change hex shank limit the bit in practice?

The 1/4" hex fits standard quick-change chucks and impact drivers, but it cannot be used in larger 3/8" or 1/2" chucks without an adapter.
