What this cable is and who it serves

This is a USB 3.0 Type-A male-to-female extension cord measuring 10 ft. It connects a computer to peripherals such as keyboards, mice, flash drives, hard drives, printers, card readers, Bluetooth adapters, scanners and hubs. The cable supports data transfer at 5 Gbps and also carries power for charging. It is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices.

Behaviour under sustained load

The reinforced SR joint has passed a 20000+ bend test, so the cable ends resist fatigue during repeated movement. An aluminium alloy shell and multiple shielding layers reduce electromagnetic interference and corrosion over time. Nylon braided armour protects the conductors from abrasion when the cable is routed across desks or through cable trays.

What to verify before ordering

Both the host port and the peripheral must support USB 3.0 to achieve 5 Gbps speeds; otherwise the link falls back to 2.0 or 1.1. A loose or worn host port can prevent 3.0 negotiation. Oxidised gold contacts caused by humidity will also degrade performance. This cable does not fit Oculus VR headsets.

Questions about this item

Does the 10 ft braided cable run warm or draw noticeable power when a USB 3.0 hard drive is left connected all day?

The cable is passive copper with shielding; it adds no active circuitry, so heat and power draw stay at the level of the connected devices.

Must my computer and peripheral both have USB 3.0 Type-A ports to reach 5 Gbps with this male-to-female cord?

Yes — both ends need USB 3.0 Type-A support; otherwise the link falls back to USB 2.0 or 1.1 speeds.

Will this extension work reliably with a USB 2.0 printer and a USB 1.1 keyboard that I still use?

The cable is backward compatible, so USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices function normally at their native speeds.
