For DP Alt Mode hosts, not Thunderbolt displays

Buyers whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode can drive a Mini DisplayPort screen at 4K 60Hz. Devices lacking DP Alt Mode will not output video through this cable. It does not work with Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 displays, nor does it enable Target Display Mode on post-2010 iMacs. Data transfer is not supported over this connection.

4K 60Hz over Thunderbolt 3 to Mini DisplayPort

The cable carries 3840 x 2160 resolution at 60Hz when the host provides a Thunderbolt 3 or DP Alt Mode signal.
