Lead-free solder wire for plumbing

This Harris Bridgit spool supplies 8 oz of solid lead-free wire measuring 0.125 in diameter. It is formulated for joining brass to brass, brass to copper and copper to copper where lead-bearing solders are prohibited. The alloy contains silver, nickel, copper and antimony in a tin matrix. Flux must be applied separately during use.

Melting range 460 to 630 °F

The wire begins to melt at 460 °F and becomes fully liquid by 630 °F, giving a broad working window for hand-fed joints. This range suits torch or iron heating in typical plumbing and sheet-metal tasks. Thermal behaviour is consistent with the stated tin-rich composition. No forced cooling or special ventilation beyond normal workshop practice is indicated.

0.125 in wire diameter

The 0.125 in thickness determines feed rate, heat-up speed and the minimum joint gap the solder can penetrate. Thinner wire would flow into tighter clearances; thicker wire would deposit more material per pass. Select this diameter when the joint geometry and heating method match the 0.125 in profile.

Questions about this item

How do I apply the 0.125 in Bridgit solder wire and what step is often missed?

Heat the joint to at least 460°F, then feed the wire so it melts on the metal, not the iron tip; the step people skip is applying a separate flux because this solid wire has no core.

What will need replacement when the 8 oz spool runs out?

Only the solder wire itself — buy another 8 oz spool of the same Bridgit lead-free alloy; no tips, nozzles or other consumables are part of this product.

What temperature limit appears first during a long soldering session?

The alloy begins melting at 460°F and is fully liquid by 630°F; exceed 630°F and the joint can overheat, so keep the iron tip at or below that maximum.
