Compact 40 mm cooling fan

The Haywards DBTB0428B2G is a 40×40×28 mm axial fan designed for computer cases and other electronics enclosures. It runs on 12 V DC with a 4-wire PWM interface for intelligent speed control and speed reporting. Double ball bearings support a rated life of 70000 hours.

18000 RPM maximum speed

The fan spins up to 18000 RPM ±10 % and delivers 19.4 CFM of airflow. Operating voltage ranges from 7.0 V to 13.4 V with a current draw of 1 A at 12 V. Acoustic output reaches 54 dB at full speed.

High airflow in tight spaces

Suitable for small-form-factor builds and component spot-cooling where a 40 mm frame is required. The high rotational speed provides strong static pressure but produces noticeable noise at peak RPM. Not suited for silent or noise-sensitive environments.

Questions about this item

What does the 18000 RPM figure mean when the fan is running inside a case?

At 18000 RPM the fan moves 19.4 CFM of air through a 40 mm frame, delivering strong airflow for tight spaces while producing 54 dB of noise.

How does the 4-wire PWM interface control the fan in practice?

The 4-pin connector carries a PWM signal that lets the motherboard vary speed between 7.0 V and 13.4 V, and the fourth wire reports actual RPM back to the system.

What clearance and mounting holes does the 40×40×28 mm frame need?

The fan requires a 40 mm square cut-out with standard 40 mm mounting centres and 28 mm depth clearance for the thicker housing.
