Single-stage HVAC thermostat

The Heagstat STN701W is a new smart thermostat built for single-stage heating and cooling systems only. It suits homeowners with standard gas, oil or electric furnaces paired with conventional air conditioning who want app-based control and scheduling. It is not for buyers with heat pumps, multi-stage equipment, PTAC units, line-voltage electric baseboards, mini-splits or RV air-conditioning systems.

2.4 GHz WiFi and C-wire requirement

Remote access and 7-day programmable scheduling rely exclusively on a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network; the 5 GHz band is not supported. A continuous C-wire connection is required for power, so installations without an existing common wire will need additional wiring work before the thermostat can operate.

Upgrade from non-programmable controls

This unit replaces basic manual or non-connected programmable thermostats, adding smartphone adjustment, multi-period daily schedules and real-time system monitoring. The jump is worth it when the household has a compatible single-stage 1H/1C system, a 2.4 GHz network and a C-wire already in place.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1H/1C single-stage model or a multi-stage thermostat for my home?

Choose the 1H/1C model only if you have a single-stage gas, oil, or electric furnace with one cooling stage. It will not work with heat pumps, multi-stage systems, PTAC units, 120-240V line voltage systems, mini-splits, or RV air conditioners.

What does the ±1°F accuracy mean when the thermostat is controlling my furnace?

The thermostat keeps the room temperature within one degree Fahrenheit of your set point, reducing noticeable swings and helping the HVAC system run more consistently.

Does the 2.4GHz WiFi limit which routers or networks I can use?

The thermostat connects only to 2.4GHz WiFi networks; 5GHz bands are not supported. Most dual-band routers broadcast both, so select the 2.4GHz SSID during setup.
