Wire Cap Connector Specifications

HellermannTyton 309-60284 is a thin-wall heat shrink tubing supplied on a mini reel for insulating and protecting wires and cables. The polyolefin material offers a 2:1 shrink ratio, reducing from 1.6 to .8 diameter to form a tight seal around conductors.

2:1 Shrink Ratio Determines Fit

The tubing shrinks to half its supplied diameter, so the 1.6 starting size becomes .8 after heating. This single ratio decides whether the connector will fit the specific wire gauge or cable bundle you are terminating.

Suits Maintenance and Identification Tasks

The green colour and UL 224 VW-1 rating make it suitable for technicians needing flame-retardant insulation and colour-coded wire marking. Buyers requiring halogen-free material or a different shrink ratio should look at alternative tubing types.

Questions about this item

What does the 2:1 shrink ratio mean when the tubing is heated on a wire?

The tubing shrinks to half its supplied diameter, so the 1.6 mm inside diameter becomes 0.8 mm after full recovery, gripping the conductor tightly.

How does the UL 224 VW-1 rating limit the way this tubing can be used?

The VW-1 vertical-wire flame test certifies the material self-extinguishes within 60 seconds, allowing installation in enclosures that require the highest flame-protection class.

What minimum clearance is needed for the mini reel to sit on a bench or mount in a dispenser?

The reel holds 100 ft of 1/16 in tubing with a 0.016 in wall, so its outer diameter stays small enough for standard desktop dispensers and tight shelf spaces.
