This adapter lets a 30 by 50 millimetre mSATA solid state drive function as a Mini PCI-e SATA module inside Asus Eee PC models 900, 900A, 901, 1000, S101 and T91. It is built for the Mini PCI-e SATA pin-out only and will not work with Mini PCI-e PATA or native mSATA slots.

Capacity limits and prerequisites

The board accepts a single mSATA SSD in the 30 by 50 millimetre form factor and presents it to the laptop through the SATA interface. A BIOS update to version 900 dash 1006 dot ROM dated 19 dot 03 dot 2009 is required before the drive becomes bootable; without that firmware the system will not recognise the storage.

Thermal noise and power behaviour

The adapter is a passive printed circuit board measuring 70 by 32 by 5 millimetres with no active cooling or onboard controller that draws measurable extra power. It adds no fan noise and its thermal contribution is limited to the drive itself, so the laptop’s original cooling and power budget remain unchanged.
