120GB Travelstar 5K250 for legacy notebooks

This HGST drive delivers 120GB of storage on a SATA 1.5Gb/s interface with 5400 RPM spindle speed and 8MB cache. The 2.5-inch form factor fits standard 9.5mm bays in older laptops and external enclosures. Average seek time is 11ms and average latency is 5.5ms.

Suits maintenance of SATA 1.5Gb/s systems

The bare-drive packaging and SATA 1.5Gb/s link make it a direct replacement for original Travelstar 5K250 units. Builders who need a SATA 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s connection, higher RPM, greater capacity or lower access times should look elsewhere.

SATA 1.5Gb/s interface decides compatibility

This drive operates only at the first-generation SATA signalling rate. A host that requires SATA 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s negotiation will not achieve its rated throughput with this unit. Verify the host controller specification before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does my laptop need a 2.5 inch SATA 1.5Gb/s bay to fit the HTS542512K9SA00?

Yes, the drive uses a 2.5 inch form factor with a 9.5mm height and connects through a SATA 1.5Gb/s interface.

Will the Travelstar 5K250 work in an older notebook that only supports SATA 1.5Gb/s speeds?

The drive runs natively at SATA 1.5Gb/s, so it matches that notebook without any speed negotiation issues.

How can I confirm the HTS542512K9SA00 is operating correctly after installation?

The BIOS should detect a 120GB drive with model HTS542512K9SA00, and SMART data will show 5400 RPM with 8MB cache.
