Enterprise 10K SAS Drive

The HGST Ultrastar C10K600 is a 600 GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 10000 rpm with a 64 MB buffer. It uses a SAS 6Gb/s interface and is built for Dell PowerEdge R610 R620 R630 R710 R720 R730 servers. The drive is new and shipped in retail or OEM packaging.

Suited for 2.5-inch SAS bays

This drive fits servers that accept 2.5-inch SAS drives with a 6Gb/s interface and the listed Dell models. It is not for systems that only support larger 3.5-inch drive bays. It is also not for buyers who need capacities beyond 600 GB or interfaces other than SAS.

6Gb/s SAS interface decides fit

The single specification that determines compatibility is the SAS 6Gb/s interface combined with the 2.5-inch form factor. Only systems equipped with matching SAS backplanes and physical 2.5-inch slots can use this drive.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" form factor and 0.6" height fit my server drive bay?

The drive uses a standard 2.5-inch form factor with a 0.6-inch height, matching the bay dimensions used in Dell PowerEdge R610, R620, R630, R710, R720 and R730 servers.

How do I connect the SAS 6Gb/s interface correctly?

Insert the drive into a hot-swap caddy so the SAS data and power connectors mate with the backplane; the common error is forcing the drive without the caddy, which misaligns the 6Gb/s SAS port.

When should I expect to replace the 64MB cache buffer or the 10000 RPM spindle?

The 64MB cache is solid-state and does not wear out; the 10000 RPM mechanical spindle is rated for continuous enterprise duty, so replacement is driven by capacity needs or SMART warnings rather than a fixed interval.
