Slim 7 mm 2.5″ drive for thin notebooks

The HGST Travelstar Z5K500 HTS545025A7E380 is a 250 GB internal hard drive built to the 7 mm Z-height that modern ultra-thin laptops require. Its SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface drops straight into any 2.5″ bay designed for the slimmer form factor. The bare-drive packaging suits system integrators and DIY upgraders alike.

Steady 5400 RPM throughput

At a constant 5400 RPM the spindle delivers predictable sustained transfer rates rather than burst-only peaks. Advanced Format moves the physical sector from 512 bytes to 4096 bytes, strengthening error correction and helping the drive maintain performance across long write sessions. Average latency sits at 5.5 ms and the 8 MB cache absorbs typical mobile workloads without throttling.

Direct 9.5 mm replacement when thickness matters

This model replaces standard 9.5 mm drives in notebooks, external enclosures and game consoles that have adopted the thinner 7 mm slot. The jump is worth it only when the chassis cannot accept a taller drive; buyers who need more capacity per platter or a taller form factor should look elsewhere. EcoTrac classification confirms low-power, halogen-free construction for mobile thermal budgets.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 5400 RPM Travelstar Z5K500 draw and does it run hot in a laptop that stays on all day?

The drive carries the EcoTrac classification for low power consumption and halogen-free production, and its 7 mm low-profile design helps it fit slim notebooks without adding heat.

My laptop only has a standard SATA 3.0Gb/s port — is anything else required to install this 2.5" drive?

No extra parts are needed; the bare drive connects directly to any 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s bay using the standard data and power connectors.

Will this 250 GB Advanced Format drive work in an older notebook that expects 512-byte sectors?

Yes — the 4,096-byte physical sectors are presented to the system as 512-byte logical sectors, so legacy BIOS and operating systems see a compatible drive.
