HIRO INCORPORATION
A V.92 56K external USB 2.0 modem with dual RJ-11 jacks for dial-up internet and fax
The HIRO H50228 V92 is a 56K external USB dial-up modem for computers that lack an internal modem. It suits users who still rely on a traditional phone line for internet access or fax communication. The device works with Windows built-in drivers, so no separate software installation is required. Simply connect it to a USB 2.0 port and a phone jack to get started.
The modem draws its power directly from the USB 2.0 connection, so it adds no separate power supply to the desk. With no moving parts inside the enclosure, it runs silently during data or fax sessions. Heat output is negligible in normal use, making it suitable for continuous operation in quiet environments. The compact external design keeps the host computer’s internal temperatures unaffected.
This modem provides dual RJ-11 jacks, letting you connect both a telephone handset and an answering machine at the same time. It supports the V.92 standard for 56K downstream speeds and works with major ISPs such as Netzero, AOL, Earthlink, PeoplePC, Verizon and AT&T. Buyers who need a broadband connection or a network Ethernet port will not be served by this dial-up device.

Plug the modem into a USB 2.0 port; Windows built-in drivers install automatically. The step often missed is connecting the phone line to the correct RJ-11 jack for line versus phone.
No scheduled maintenance is required. Replacement may be needed if the USB connector or RJ-11 ports suffer physical wear from repeated cable insertion.
The 56 Kbps downstream ceiling is the first limit encountered; sustained throughput cannot exceed the V.92 standard maximum over analogue phone lines.
