What this adapter does

This Hitoor 7260HMW is a dual-band wireless AC adapter that fits a PCI Express M.2 slot. It adds 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 to a laptop or small-form-factor PC that has a compatible M.2 key. The card operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with a 2x2 antenna arrangement and a maximum link rate of 1200Mbps. It is supplied new with two screws and an instruction manual.

Who should buy it and who should not

It suits owners of laptops or embedded boards that accept a standard half-height M.2 Wi-Fi module and run Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 or Linux 2.4.x/2.6.x and later. Buyers whose devices use a proprietary BIOS whitelist that blocks third-party wireless cards should look elsewhere. Systems without an available M.2 PCIe slot or without antenna cables installed cannot use this adapter.

The specification that decides fit

The card uses a PCI Express M.2 interface with a standard half-height layout; it will not install in full-size Mini PCIe slots without a separate bracket adapter. The BIOS note states it fits all laptop brands except those with HP, Lenovo or ThinkPad whitelists. Bluetooth 4.0 is included for low-energy peripherals.

Questions about this item

How much heat or power does the 7260HMW draw during all-day use?

The card is a half-size mini PCIe module with Bluetooth 4.0 and 2x2 dual-band Wi-Fi; typical power draw is low enough for laptop battery operation.

What must my laptop already have for this 7260HMW to work?

An available half-size mini PCIe slot, two antenna connectors, and a BIOS that is not locked to HP or Lenovo whitelists.

Will the 7260HMW coexist with an older 802.11n router on 2.4 GHz?

Yes, it supports 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz and 802.11 a/n/ac on 5 GHz, so it will connect to legacy networks at their maximum rates.
